General Information About the Auxo Products
While each of the Auxo caps has numerous similar features, the primary difference between them is total energy output. Total output is calculated as 5(mW) x (number of lasers); therefore, 150 lasers = 750 mW and 300 lasers = 1500mW of total energy output at any given time during treatment. While both models are safe and effective, we offer differing total output to accommodate most physiological needs.
The Auxo unit uses a USB-C charging cable connected to a standard charger. When traveling internationally you will need an adapter.
The serial number of your Auxo laser cap can be found on the back of the laser dome
The Auxo unit will not be damaged by sweat if conducting light during moderate exercise while completing treatment. However, activities that might knock a hat off your head are likely to be too strenuous to do while wearing the unit for best results, we recommend cleaning the device afterward (according to the instructions for use and care) if used during exercise.
If it is necessary to clean the surfaces of your Auxo® laser therapy cap, please follow these instructions. Note: The Auxo® laser therapy cap has no parts that can be serviced by the user. If service is required, contact Auxo, LLC. DISCONNECT ALL CABLES ON THE AUXO® LASER THERAPY CAP BEFORE CLEANING. To clean the Auxo® laser therapy cap, gently wipe the inner surface of the laser device with an alcohol wipe or a water-moistened cloth. Do not use excessive pressure or force as this may damage the unit. DO NOT use acetone or any other solvents on any part of the device. Acetone and other solvents will damage the unit and void the warranty.
Why do some medical devices and drugs have FDA approvals, whereas others only have FDA clearance? What is the difference?
The FDA only grants “Approvals” for drugs and medical devices that are either: 1) categorized as a Class III (which means they are life-threatening, life-sustaining, implanted, or present an unreasonable risk of injury or illness) or 2) are new products that contain new materials or differ in design from that which is already on the market.
If there is a medical device that has already been approved by the FDA for the same intended use and is similar in technical characteristics, then the FDA only grants “clearance” (pre-market approval/access) to market the new substantially equivalent medical device in the USA. Auxo laser devices are classified as Class II medical devices and were substantially equivalent to comb and helmet predecessors on the market and thus not a candidate for the FDA approval process.
Auxo laser unit emits lights in the wavelength of 650 nm, which is a visible red-light band. A laser beam at 650 nm penetrates the hair follicle where it is most effective, unlike an LED diode which disperses and does not penetrate to the same depth.
All the devices cleared by the FDA for the specific purpose of treating androgenetic alopecia and promoting hair growth operate in the visible light range, specifically at or around 650 nm.
No. Auxo is cool to the touch, meaning your LLLT treatment will be comfortable
A few users have seen a very minor rise in temperature in the treatment area, however, this is harmless while being administered and is probably due to heat naturally emitted from the covered scalp. If you believe your device may be suffering an unusual rise in temperature, please contact us
The fit does not have to be snug on your scalp. Ideally, the lasers should be 1-3 cm away from the scalp. The silicone liner ensures the minimum (1cm) distance; if the cap is resting loosely on your head, it is perfectly okay.
Our Auxo unit is a one size which fits most head sizes
Yes! You can travel with your Auxo laser therapy cap. In fact, we encourage you to do so to stay compliant with your treatment regimen. We designed our Auxo laser caps so that they would be convenient for travel. We have several features that make it easy to do so. Included with each device is a lightweight carrying case that protects your device for storage and travel.
If you decide to transport your device in a checked bag, you will need to put the battery pack in your carry-on bag. Our batteries are rated 18.5Wh and fall below TSA travel restrictions of 100Wh.
However, because the battery pack contains a lithium-ion battery, it cannot be checked in with baggage, as per TSA lithium-ion battery restrictions, and must be carried on.
Safety and Effectiveness
Yes. Auxo technology uses a special type of low-level laser light that operates at 650 nm. At this level, the energy of the laser does not damage skin cells. Rather, light is absorbed by the skin without causing any pain or discomfort.
Yes. Unlike some prescription medications for hair loss, Auxo low-level laser therapy (LLLT) products are safe for use by women. In fact, the convenience and effectiveness of personal LLLT products make Auxo products the first choice among many hair restoration surgeons in our Auxo network who treat women suffering from thinning, shedding, or genetic hair loss.
Yes. There are no known contraindications for using Auxo laser therapy in conjunction with other hair loss medications such as minoxidil. In fact, many hair restoration physicians in our network use a combination of therapies to manage hair loss for their patients.
Yes, you can. Using hair dye will not affect the efficacy of the treatment with your Auxo laser therapy device for hair regrowth. Some users have even reported that their hair is regrowing in their natural color.
*It is unclear what factors may cause hair to regrow in its natural pigmented color. There is no research to date to explain this reported phenomenon.
No. For most individuals, cutting or trimming hair is not necessary. Laser light typically shines through individual strands of hair to easily reach the scalp beneath. However, every patient represents a unique case. Consult your physician to better understand your hair type and whether cutting or trimming might help deliver even better results.
Usage and Treatment
Each patient represents a unique case. Results may vary from patient to patient. Because Auxo laser caps are designed to stimulate the hair follicle, most immediate biological changes occur within the skin and are invisible to the naked eye. Patients typically report seeing visual results within 3-6 months of regular treatment. Many patients feel a difference in their hair sooner than they see a difference (i.e., hair feels thicker and fuller)
Auxo laser therapy is intended to be used indefinitely unless otherwise prescribed by a physician. It is important to continue using your Auxo cap, even once you have reached the desired hair growth, to ensure you do not lose results and revert to hair loss again.
Auxo laser therapy does not need to be used at the same time every day. Treat hair whenever it is most convenient for you, whether you’re drinking your morning coffee, brushing your teeth, or preparing for bed. We recommend that you develop a daily routine to assure compliance and get the most out of your Auxo laser device.
Yes, Auxo stimulates, energizes, and renews cells within the hair follicle for thicker, healthier hair using safe, low-level lasers. It also benefits patients who have had hair transplants to safeguard the new hair development. For post-transplant follicular support, adhere to the recommendations of your transplant doctor.
We have tested for adults – 18 and over. We do not recommend it for children; however, a doctor may do so.
Results are not necessarily tied to age; rather the more important measure is the advancement of hair loss. For very advanced hair loss, hair loss that happened years ago (bald spot(s) lasting years), or hair loss not attributable to androgenic alopecia (genetic hair loss), the device may not be effective.
This depends on the model. More diodes mean fewer uses between charges. For the A150, you should get 5-6 uses before recharging. You should receive 2 treatments per full charge battery. Pay attention to your charging lights – when the last light is blinking, it is time to recharge.
We recommend using the Auxo Laser Cap with clean and dry hair for best results. Water is a light "bender" and "reflector"; the object of the treatment is to get the light directly to the scalp.
While we are not aware of any literature regarding the use of laser therapy while hair is wet or damp; for best results, we recommend using the cap on a clean and dry scalp.
Yes, increased thinning at the beginning of treatment is normal (androgenic alopecia), and should subside within a month. If not, consult with your hair specialist and confirm an androgenic alopecia diagnosis.
Exceeding the recommended dosage can actually hinder the hair regrowth process. The recommended dosage is based on industry clinical studies and results noted since the first device was cleared in 2007. Additional considerations include tolerance to the red-light laser exposure. The best action is to discuss with your hair restoration specialist to see if he/she believes you will be a good candidate to increase the dosage.
